Two scientists from MLBKE, Dr. Eng. Magdalena Procner and Agnieszka Winiarska MSc Eng. received Scientific Exchange Grants from the European Molecular Biology Organization.

Both scientists will start new joint projects with Philipps-Universität Marburg.

Agnieszka Winiarska

Agnieszka Winiarska MSc Eng. will conduct research focused on CRYO-EM in cooperation with Dr. Jan Schuller from the Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO) and the Department of Chemistry of the Phillipps University Marburg. The project "Structure determination of aldehyde oxidoreductase from Aromatoleum aromaticum by cryo-EM single-particle analysis with sample preparation under redox-controlled conditions" will be a part of her Ph.D. project conducted in cooperation with Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Polish Academy of Science and the Laboratory of Microbiology at the Philipps-University Marburg.

Magdalena Procner

Dr. Eng. Magdalena Procner will conduct research focused on the exploration of unknown activities of selenoenzymes and the effects of substitution of cysteine by selenocysteine. The project entitled 'Exploration of an unknown biochemical role of selenocysteine in enzymes' will be conducted in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Johann Heider from the Laboratory of Microbiology at the Philipps-University Marburg.
